James "Jim" Canaday Obituary

James “Jim” Irvin Canaday, 65, of Orangeburg passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. 

Jim was born on July 27, 1958, in Summerville, S.C.  He was the son of the late Buster B. Canaday and the late Margaret Dukes Hutto.  He was a member of CCI Church.  Jim was the meat market manager for Food Lion and Bi-lo for over 44 years until his retirement.  After his retirement he was employed with the Plant Depot.  He enjoyed fishing, being outdoors and his nightly milkshakes from Sonic or Cook-Out.  He was lovingly referred to “Pop” by many. 

Survivors include his wife of 12 years, Debra Hobbs Canaday; son, Jamison “Jamie” Canaday (Christie); daughters, Amber Ferguson (Robert), Mallory Moore (Andrew), Jillian “Jill” Canaday (Nicholas Parler), Nazareth “Naz” Reed; grandchildren, Trevor, Tucker, Tristen, Tanner Canaday, Bella Ferguson, Scarlett Parler, Brantley Ferguson, Marley Meyer; brothers, Arthur “Kim” Canaday (Kitty), Buster “B.B.” Canaday (Jackie); sister, Rebecca “Becky” Woods (Allen) and an additional number of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Harleyville Cemetery in Harleyville, S.C. Pastor John Yancy and Minister Matthew Dittrich will be officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Monday, April 22, 2024, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel, 1012 Whitman Street, Orangeburg.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are SFC Andrew Moore, Trevor Canaday, PFC Tucker Canaday, Tristen Canaday, Tanner Canaday and Landon Farley.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bella Ferguson, Scarlett Parler, Brantley Ferguson and Marley Meyer.
