John J. Myers

John J. Myers, 91, of Cope passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel, 1012 Whitman Street, Orangeburg.  Rev. Alan Woodward will be officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens, 4830 Columbia Road, Orangeburg.

The family will receive friends from 10:30-11:30 A.M. on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel prior to the funeral service.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Jeffery Metts, Lee Myers, Joshua Metts, John Metts, Wayne Stack and Lynn Stack.

Mr. Myers was born in Cope, S.C. to the late Johnny Lever and Flossie Myers. He served his country in the United States Army. He retired from US Plywood after more than 25 years of service. Mr. Myers was a lifelong member of Canaan Baptist Church in Cope.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and farming. He loved listening to blue grass music and especially Dolly Parton. 

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Luvine P. Myers; children, Buddy Myers (Wanda), Theresa Metts (John); grandchildren, Jeffery Metts (Stacie), Lee Myers, Joshua Metts, Kennadie Metts; great-grandchild, Abigail Yoakum; a sister, Lena Stack and a number of nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by brothers, Elvin Myers, Robert “Brown” Myers and a grandson,  Joey Etheridge.

Memorials may be made to Canaan Baptist Church at 4977 Cannon Bridge Road Cope, S.C. 29038 or to a charity of one’s choice.
