L. Sue Syfrett Obituary

Mrs. Sue Syfrett, 82, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 27, 2022, at Providence Baptist Church, 51 Providence Rd, Orangeburg.  Dr. Kimmett Lott will be officiating.  Burial will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park, 4830 Columbia Rd, Orangeburg.

The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at Providence Baptist Church prior to the funeral service.

Pallbearers will be Martin Russell, Fred Russell, Joey Syfrett and Marion Syfrett.

Mrs. Sue was born February 1, 1940. She was the daughter of the late Macon McNeal and the late Polly Jordan McNeal. Mrs. Sue graduated from Priceville High School, in Decatur AL, and Mrs. Sue earned an AA degree from the University of AL, (Roll Tide, just for you Mrs. Sue!!!).

Mrs. Sue was working at a company in Tampa Florida that relocated her to right here in Orangeburg! Two years later she met Mr. George, "the love of her earthly life"! They were married at Northgate Baptist church by Pastor Burt Williams, and they have been happily married for over 32 years.  She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, daughters, Cynthia Madison, Lisa Syfrett, Donna Russell and granddaughter Brentice Carter.

Mrs. Sue has attended church all her life and has been involved with teaching, starting with 4-6 graders to holding probably just about every elected office, committee chairman, etc...in the church. Mrs. Sue became involved with WMU at Northgate in 1990 during this time she was President, Moderator then Director. Mrs. Sue held offices at Northgate for 15 years and at New Hope for 10 years as Sunday School Teacher, WMU Director, Trustee member and Chair, Treasurer, Stewardship member and Chair, Fellowship and Hospitality, VBS Director, Building and Grounds member and Chair.  Mrs. Sue has taught just about all age levels in WMU. Mrs. Sue was Associational Director-Elect for four years and then Director for four years and served as Member At Large for the OCAB Leadership Team. Mrs. Sue also had the title of Faith Base Leader for one year with DJJ which is now known as Circle of Hope-Blazers. Mrs. Sue volunteered with the Veterans on several levels as well as working with the Dalton's Home for Veterans.

Survivors include her husband, George Syfrett; sons, George “Marion” Syfrett, Joey Syfrett; daughter, Wanda Gammel, thirteen grandchildren; Jessica, Jacqueline, Bryna, Martin, Kevin, Fred, Emily, Devin, Preston, Tatum, Hannah, Annslie, Elijah, eleven great-grandchildren; Sidney, Taylor, Adrienne, Lauren, Abbey, Parker, Presley, Adam, Clark, Charlotte, Nora,  and one great-great grandchild; Xavier.
