Marion L. O’Cain, 84, of 1079 Bethel Forest Rd., Orangeburg, S.C., passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, surrounded by family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 12:00 P.M. at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel, 1012 Whitman St., Orangeburg, S.C. Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, 2720 Broughton St., Orangeburg, S.C.
Mr. O’Cain was born on December 8, 1938, in Orangeburg, S.C. to the late Lever H. O’Cain, Sr. and Mattie Ayers O’Cain. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Floyd O’Cain, his brothers Glenn H. O’Cain, Leroy A. O’Cain, and Lever H. O’Cain, Jr. He was a charter member of Grace Baptist Church of Orangeburg, S.C., a member of the Woodmen of the World Society, and served in the National Guard for six years. Mr. O’Cain was a retired farmer and cotton ginner with both the Orangeburg Gin and O. L. Hughes Gin.
Survivors include his children Debbie (Mack) Crosby of Cordova, Julian Pike Smoak, Jr. of Cordova, Dana (Chris) Gillis of Puyallup, WA.; grandchildren Rachel (Anthony) Crosby Cooper of Orangeburg, Chad (Melanie) Crosby of Cordova, Robert Christopher Gillis of Ibaraki, Japan; two great grandchildren; a number of nephews.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Chad Crosby, Robert Gillis, Anthony Cooper, Howard O’Cain, Russell O’Cain, and Jacob Wilkins.
Honorary pallbearers are men of Grace Baptist Church.
A special thank you to Hope Bishop, Paula Hudson, Howard and Mary O’Cain, and the staff of Amedisys Hospice for their care.
