Norma (Baxley) Fort

Norma Baxley Fort, 82, passed away on Friday, September 1, 2023. While she will be missed by many, we are thankful that she is now again in the arms of her beloved husband, John Robert Fort who died in 2019.

Mrs. Fort was born in Pearson, GA.  She was the daughter of the late W.H. Baxley and the late Agnes McNeil Baxley.  She retired from the Edisto School district after many years of service.  Mrs. Fort was a member of Willow Swamp Baptist Church.  She loved cooking and collecting cookbooks.  Her family was her life.  She was a loving wife, mother, and “Nanny.”  She will forever be missed.

Survivors include her children, Clete Fort (Maria) of Las Vegas, NV, Pamela Fort Ridgway (Keith) of Lexington, S.C., William Fort (Melissa) of Norway, S.C.; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a special sister-in-law, Gayle Carter and a special fur daughter, “Sissy.”

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel, 1012 Whitman Street, Orangeburg.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at Willow Swamp Baptist Church, 1956 Willow Swamp Rd, Norway.  Pastor Ben Harr will be officiating.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Wady Zissett, David Fort, Robert Lynn Fort, Ron Phillips and Gerald Brown.
