Tom was born on December 17, 1933, in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of the late Carl F. and Martha Ganster Hayson. He studied drafting at Carnegie Technical College in Pittsburgh. He was an elite draftsman and salesman for many years with Koppers Industries and retired from Cox Wood Preserving after a very long and successful sales career. After retirement, he devoted his time to his family and the things he enjoyed, such as fishing, woodworking and being “Grampap”. In their dream house on a lake which he rebuilt, they lived for 40 years, “The World's Greatest Fisherman with the Catch of his Life.”
Survivors include his high school sweetheart and beloved wife of 70 years, Dorothy “Dot” S. Hayson; children, Brian (Carol) of South Carolina, Connie (Bob) Meng of New Jersey, Tom Jr. (Sue) of Pennsylvania, Linda (Dave) Smitheman of North Carolina; thirteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and additional family.
Life dealt Tom a fair hand of cards and he played them brilliantly. He was a loving, honest, and compassionate man.
May He Rest in Peace.
