William Raymond Perry, 87 of Orangeburg passed away Monday, July 15, 2019 in Florida.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Friday before the service at the funeral home
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, July 19, 2019 at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Orangeburg with Rev. Carl Shaffer officiating. Burial will follow at Platt Family Cemetery in Holly Hill, SC.
Pallbearers will be Tony Altman, Daniel Taylor, Bruce Platt, Mark Vines, Alvoid Pratt and Darrell Pratt
Mr. Perry was born January 31, 1932 in Sumter, SC; the son of Jay and Florence Perry. He was U.S. Army veteran. He was drafted into the Army and was sent to Germany where he was on a special assignment and his feet got frozen. A General came to check on everyone there in his personal helicopter and discovered that Mr. Perry had frozen feet. He had him put in the helicopter and flew him to a hospital in Germany where an American doctor worked 1 to 1 ½ years saving his feet. He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-grandson, Joey Allen Altman.
Survivors include his wife; Margie Mae Kizer of Holly Hill, SC; daughter; Linda (Bill) Harlow of Hampton, SC; 1 son, James William Perry; 2 step-daughters; Sybil (Mark) Vines of Ovieda, FL and Mollie (Carl) Shaffer of Shawnee, OK; 3 step-sons; Joe Platt of Harleyville, SC; Bruce Platt of Roanoke, VA and Daniel Taylor of Moncks Corner, SC and 3 grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
